For things I don’t have time to make, I dump them here.

Alt-Bra Manifesto(!)

When I was in puberty and my breast was swelling and sore, my mom made me an iron bra to protect me from any collisions and the curious gaze. I lived in this golden shield throughout my teenage years and it became part of my identity.

Technology has advanced so much but the bra is still terribly designed. I’m picking this tabooed area, making a series of explorations. They are interrogative, responsive, or simply for fun.

1 A bikini that the bra is also a swim ring to let you float...

2 A bra that can shoot vertex rings from the two nipples... The ring could contain aroma, pheromone, or human scent. The ring can travel 5m away directionally, sending tactile nudge with the scent. (Multi material printing)

3 A bra that is designed solely for the comfort, pleasure, and health for women. The bra’s function is to cover, support and elevate a woman’s breasts. What are the alternative functions, the preferred functions, who are the consumers? Female? Why they are so not user friendly. Male? For the pleasure of the eyes? What about breast cancer thrivers (with one breast), teenage girls (constant shape changing), senior citizens (breast sagging)? A transformable bra that can adapt to your changing needs?

4 A bra with Moire pattern, bra as inner patterned layer, another layer as the mask. As the lady moves, the 1st layer mask creates various animations for the patterns on the 2nd layer. The moving patterns change the perception of the feminine figure as she moves...

When all these alt-bras are combined, I invert and expose the structure of the taboo culture - the ugly face of commodity fetishism. Of course the bra was never meant to be user-friendly. They were designed not for the female user, but for the commodified Male Gaze. The victims of this imposed cycle are both genders. Commodity fetishism replaces the social narrative with mythologies of it's own creation - mythologies that enslave each user with a sense of false need that they cannot live without what they've been convinced they must have.

Surrogacy Machine

I’m building a surrogacy machine. It takes the real time heartbeat, temperature, growth, and design of the fetus into a silicone wearable that goes onto your belly like a belt. People can wear it for 9 months to experience being pregnant but leave out the painful part. It grows as the baby grows, and the whole process finishes with the final cut of the umbilical cord.

I have a friend, a wonderful woman. She founded a startup with her husband and sold it to one of the Silicon Valley giants after 8 years. They were so busy with work and never had time for each other. They kept postponing life events including having a baby 6 months after 6 months. By the time the startup was sold, they finally have time for themselves. Her husband said, “I want to divorce and make new explorations”. Time pasts fast before we realize that we can never trace back life. Knowing she might not be able to have a baby anymore in her life, she still want to have the experience of being pregnant, experiencing the social aspect of that, and most importantly, get a 6-month paid paternity leave. So I’m making this surrogacy machine for her.

The real time data of the baby is collected from a pregnant mother in need. The fee we paid for the data will be used to raise the child when he/she is born. The baby already pays for his/her own college before coming into this world.

In the surrogacy business, couples who can’t have children naturally and outsource pregnancy can use this machine to experience the growth of the baby in the surrogate’s womb in real time.

Transmission and diffusion of light in Multi-material 3D Printing

Embed smell in Multi-material 3D Printing and use generative patterns in the print to redirect sunlight to illuminate different parts of the smell. Calculate the underlying algebra of smell, use three primary smells to create various smell states. Illuminate different parts of the print to generate various combinations of smell.

Add Xenon to make it glow.

Earring EarPods

Wearable tech should be fashionable.

There is no idle stage of AirPod. You have to put it in the case.

With EarPods, you wear it as earrings. When you need audio, just put it up into your ears.

Open source, modular fashion

Download pattern, use any materials, flat laser cut, put together in a way that doesn’t require sewing.

Moire Pattern Dress

2 layered. Movement creates animation.
